We cultivate opportunities for social interaction and recreation in a positive atmosphere that is representative of our neighbourhood, and where individuals of all ages and backgrounds may interact in a healthy pursuit.
Since its establishment in 1971, the mission of the Sunnyside Community Garden has been to provide a beautiful and nurturing space where individuals and families can be educated on and experience the rewards of growing nutritious, organic fruits, vegetables and flowers for themselves and their community.
We’ve created an environment where members can work collaboratively and enjoy the fruits of a shared vision and labour within a communal space in Queens, New York, as well as explore individual gardening interests.
The Story of the Sunnyside Community Garden
The Sunnyside Community Garden has been a part of Sunnyside, Queens, New York for 50 years. The garden was started by local families tired of their street being used as a dumping ground. They took it upon themselves to turn an eye-sore into a productive and beautiful benefit to their entire community.
